Manono

Manono Island, situated between Upolu and Savaii, is only a few kilometers in circumference, but small as it is, it was in years gone by the most important of the group of islands in a political sense, for it was here that the highest chiefs lived.

Of a triangular shape, it rises in the centre to a height of about 500 metres, and is well covered with breadfruit and coconut trees. Near the south-west end of Manono is a little islet known as Nu'ulopa which was for years used as the burial grounds of one of the Manono families.

Manono, is a must for any tropical island lover, with no vehicles, dogs, pigs or electricity. A Visit the Missionary Memorial, the historic Grave of 99 Stones and the amazing Ancient Star Mound.
